Small Business Stories
Every week during Campaign Shop Independent, we went behind the scenes of small businesses across the country, bringing to life their magic. Stories help us forge connections between people and ideas which is why we asked some of the Holly & Co-mmunity to share their own stories as part of #CampaignShopIndependent.
Episode Five – NEW
The Midnight Makers
This episode is all about the secret army of midnight makers who burn the candle at both ends! Who use the night to grow, while others sleep. We hear from Ingrid and Lisa, founders of The Mallow Makers; Martha, creator of stationary brand Martha Brook London and Mako, founder of Berry and Brie – the go to place for cheese lovers!
Their stories highlight not only the passion and love that goes into creating and running your own small business, but the reality of the hard work involved. This is not for the faint hearted, but these stories show, the greatest reward of all is to do what you love and love what you do.
The reopening of the high street
In this episode we celebrated the reopening of the high street by meeting incredible independent shop owners who shared what it’s meant to finally be reunited with their customers. Their stories are a heartwarming reminder that although we’ve had to close our doors for much of the year our connection with our customers is stronger than ever.
Sidonie founder of stationery specialist Papersmiths who have shops in Chelsea, Brighton and King’s Cross; Clare one half of Little Mashers a creative children’s boutique in Hastings and sisters Jamila and Natasha, founders of package free grocery store The Good Store.
Keeping it in the family
In this episode of Small Business Stories, we were ‘Keeping it in the family’. Like me and so many others, Spice Kitchen, Karin Akesson Design and Know and Love London keep family at the heart of everything they do. From giving up careers to work together to dreaming up the next best selling product – there’s nothing like the implicit trust and support of those closest to you – sharing in the journey of building a life you love. And they’re not alone!
Mind-Blowing Fact: Did you know that 88% of all businesses in the UK are family businesses??
In this episode three trailblazing businesses took us under their wing to share their Christmas lessons. These are all the things they’ve learnt after years of successful Christmases. From the “all hands on deck!” moment, to never forgetting that double the orders will always take more than double the time!
This week we heard from Phil and Tanya from Harrow and Green, founders of Modo Creative, Emma & Andrew and brilliant Sandra from Quirky Chocolate.
What a difference a year makes
This week we met Calypso of Indytute, glittery Kristal, founder of Sparkle Child and Rebecca founder of Honeywell Biscuit Co as we explored “What a Difference a Year Makes” and how they have all adapted.
None of us saw 2020 coming but just look at how small businesses have reacted! Going back to the drawing board, embracing online, changing at chameleon-like speed – they’ve known when it’s time to push forward and when it’s time to pull back.
