Celebrating everything ‘Man Made’ – meet Matt from Basil & Ford

Today we are featuring the very lovely Basil & Ford! We are huge fans of their work at Holly & Co, and we are lucky enough to stock their beautiful one off vintage, prints – each hand screen printed by Matt and his wife Lucy.
We love following them on instagram@basilandford and their daughter (ridiculously cute mini helper) Tilly – look at the little cubby hole they have made her in their studio! What an inspirational example of a modern day family business who are living the ‘good life’. We asked them to share a little about themselves… We picked up a squeegee (after both studying art and design at university) was back in 2011 when we screen printed our own wedding invitations. From then on we were hooked! In 2013 we found out we were expecting our first little one so assessed our set up in London, our jobs in big design and advertising agencies and decided we wanted to make a change. So we took the plunge and we upped sticks and returned to the sticks ready to embark on a new chapter in our lives. We set up in a slightly derelict old barn and got to work designing our first ranges of art prints, stationery and home wares. A lot has changed since then. Our little lady isn’t so little anymore and we have a second on the way. We have finally moved into an all singing, all dancing studio that has heating and plumbing which is such a luxury and the business is going from strength to strength. Our prints are 100% hand printed by our very own hands and hope to bring a smile to all those who gaze upon our work. We are Basil & Ford. Mighty fine things for mighty fine people. ? “Why Basil & Ford” we hear you ask! It is simple really. Matt was born in BASILdon and Lucy was born in StamFORD so it is a representation of the two people
that make up the brand. We told you it was simple! And yes, Matt is an Essex boy!
