Celebrating ‘The Artists’

We’re passionate about supporting different small business industries at whatever stage of their journey and when we were building Holly & Co, we knew we wanted to bring things to life. We wanted to make them feel ‘real’ in order for people to truly engage and maybe become inspired. Each month, our space becomes a homage to small business industries. Last month we celebrated ‘The Florist’ and this month we’re all about The Artist. So, how are we doing this?

On our walls
We have the honour of displaying beautiful artwork by some of my favourite artists – Alex Ebdon, Jack Fetherstonhaugh and Sally Muir. We are also offering the opportunity for local amateur artists to display their artwork in the shop. To nominate your favourite artist or pitch your own work that we can display, use #hollyandcoartist All the artwork in the shop, is available to buy – just enquire with one of our lovely shopkeepers.

In the shop
Our artisan reel in the centre of the shop, is proudly displaying a collection of products curated by Holly for this month’s theme. All products are made lovingly by a small business and you can really tell, with the attention to detail and quality. Our new products include artist inspired candles by Edit 58, concrete objects painted with watercolour by Emma McDowell and handpainted textiles from Sky Siouki.  Remember when you shop from us you help support an actual person who makes the product by hand. So thank you for supporting small!

On your plate

Each month, we work with our amazing small businesses and our food also becomes inspired. We have an exclusive paint splashed cake by Esme Baker, exclusive paint brush cake pops by Mrs P and even exclusive easel biscuits by Enchanting Bakes. These biscuits are very special as we provide ‘edible’ pens, so your child can get creative and then munch away! We’re all for inspiring those future artists out there!

Things to do

In celebration of the artist this month we’re holding some exciting events to help you channel your inner artist, or tempt you to start a new hobby! You can book a space on this site, by visiting the ‘events’ section. If you’re local, you can always ask one of our lovely shopkeepers or email events@holly.co

Pup Portraits with Sally Muir – £40

Saturday 20th May – all day
Sally Muir will be setting up her own mini art studio at Holly & Co for the day and you’ll be able to bring in your beloved pup for his (or hers) very own portrait. Each appointment is 15 mins and you will leave with a beautiful, unique portrait to treasure. We’re almost sold out!

Hockney Inspired Screen Printing with Nicole Line – £59

Wednesday 24th May – 7pm
As a part of our month long celebration of the artist we are delighted to be holding a David Hockney themed screen printing workshop, hosted by Nicole Line. During the two hour session Nicole will take you step by step through the process of screen printing onto an item of your old clothing, bringing new life to it using Hockney’s distinct, bold style.

Watercolour Class with  Emma Block – £60

Monday 5th June – 7pm
We’re excited to have the renowned illustrator Emma Block visiting us at Holly & Co to teach one of her sell out watercolour workshops, and share her tips on how to achieve her distinct modern style. The workshop will focus on developing skills and applying techniques allowing you to grow in confidence and start to develop your own style. You’ll learn how simple brush strokes can be used to create leaves, flowers and stems which you’ll then use to work on a final piece, sketching and painting from life, with plenty of guidance and encouragement from Emma. By the end of the workshop you’ll be well on your way to developing your own unique watercolour style.

*You will be given a complete set of materials which you can take away after class, including guide sheets, paper, brushes and a set of Windsor and Newton watercolours.

The Fairies

We never forget, that a little bit of magic is always around. Here in the Work/Shop we make sure that the magic is always looked after and that is why we never forget the fairies that live in our wall. They too are joining in with Artist month.

I hope you might be able to come and visit. Maybe bring someone who needs inspiring? We’ve made sure that our Work/Shop is a happy space and so it’s perfect if you just fancy a moment to eat cake and dream.

We also love seeing your images, tag us on instagram #hollyandco or follow the workshop here, @hollyandcoworkshop
