Courage Boost

Anyone for a dose of courage?

We all have moments in our life when we feel the need for an extra big dollop of courage with sprinkles (or Rescue Pips) on top. Sometimes it’s really digging deep and finding the strength to meet an overwhelming situation head-on or it’s the courage to walk into something blind but knowing it’s the right thing to do.

Whether it’s taking those crucial decisions before the frantic Christmas rush, making some tough choices while all the time you know the clock is ticking away or finally taking the plunge with a business idea you’ve always dreamed of. Here are some of my pips (sorry, tips!) for summoning up as much courage as you possibly can, being careful of the calorie count!

  1. Embrace any fear you may have. It’s true what they say about avoiding fears and actually making them stronger. We all know this feeling…we allow the fear to grow and grow.

  2. Try not to hesitate as the longer your brain has to come up with excuses, the more time you will have to procrastinate. Just do it! You will thank yourself later. Rip off that plaster.

  3. Get outside your comfort zone. Work that uncomfortable muscle. It’s a fact that doing something you don’t normally do helps you cope with the unexpected.

  4. And last but by no means least, build up your confidence as, when you believe in yourself, you will find it easier to take courageous action. Red lipstick, sharp shirt or new trainers – feel the best of yourself to summons ‘courage’.

Think back to that wonderful film, The Wizard of Oz, and the wizard’s advice to the cowardly lion. ‘You have plenty of courage, I am sure. All you need is confidence in yourself.’ Such wise words. Or, there’s ‘Grow a pair’! Not everyone likes that expression, but I do. Two expressions different ends of the courage censorship rainbow! Anyone else have something they say when they need to muster up that magical strength called courage?
