Getting to grips with Instagram

If you’re just getting started with your company’s social media presence, Instagram is a great place to start.

View it as the window to you and your business. When people look in, you want them to see beautiful things and desire to come back for more. Here are a few top tips:

  • Resolution. Try to shoot images in the best quality possible, use a digital camera, or if using your smartphone, avoid over processing images with too many filters.

  • Quality over quantity. Keep your images original. Showcase new products, tease ‘work in progress’ or take your followers behind the scenes of your creative space. The choice is yours, but make sure you inspire.

  • Join the conversation. Hashtags are more than just a way of grouping content, do some research and see which ones would work best for you. There are whole communities to explore with hundreds of thousands of users conversing and supporting one another daily. You can even start your own hashtags!

  • Detail in the data. Instagram doesn’t currently allow users to view analytics on the platform, but there are several comprehensive, easy to use sites out there that will unlock that precious data for you. I recommend trying Iconosquare or Simply Measured, both of which offer free trials. Finding out your user demographics or even the best time of day to post content could really change your business.

I hope these tips help you brighten up your Instagram window a little, there’s nothing like a social media spring clean!
