What makes you happy? Like really Mudley wiggle, glowing on the inside nothing-can-ruin-this-day-for-me happy?? Most people find this a lot harder to answer than they originally think… because it’s so easy to get caught up in the pace of life and stop reflecting on how you actually FEEL. But also because it’s not a question we ask ourselves regularly, and we absolutely should!
Instead of setting yourself pie in the sky resolutions this year, I’d like you to ask yourself this one question, and often! What makes YOU happy?
I read recently that there are are two main sources of motivation; extrinsic (outside) and intrinsic (inside). And how most of us are unconsciously being motivated by extrinsic factors, such as a salary or what others will think, when what we really need to focus on are the intrinsic factors, such as our passions and the opportunity to explore and learn for enjoyment, not reward.
We’re suffering from ‘praise addiction’ and are trained by society to seek praise and to impress people to feel validation. As a result, we lose sight of what we truly want by pursuing what we think others will be impressed by. Being motivated by your connection something will make you happier and lead to higher levels of success and satisfaction over a sustained period.
Ask yourself this and see if you are being extrinsically or intrinsically motivated. If it’s the former, then start working on making it more of the latter, trust me, your happiness will skyrocket!
