Independent “Till I Die”

Wordsmith and etching genius Andy, founder of Vinegar & Brown Paper has joined our mission to get everyone shopping independent whenever they can this Christmas #campaignshopindependent.
.
According to research carried out by @notonthehighstreet this November, just 26p of each pound spent on Christmas ‘products’ is spent with small businesses. And whilst over 85% of those surveyed said they like shopping with small businesses, a third have not purchased anything from a small business in the past six months and more than one in ten have not in the past year! For me, this research gives us such an opportunity – 74P is being spent currently with big businesses, and so what if we all decided to consciously spend more with small businesses. So that 50P of our £1 went towards supporting the underdog? Can you join me on this mission?
.
We need to put our money where our mouth is and vote with our money! Supporting independent businesses is a conscious choice that, put simply, more of us need to make and more often! Reasons cited in the research by people who like shopping small included buying British, uniqueness and bespoke gifts and supporting an owner and their family over lining the pockets of CEOs. I could add so many more amazing reasons to this list… shopping small and local is the more ethical option, it helps your community thrive, creates jobs, facilitates connection and conversation – to name a few!
.
Andy has engraved this gorgeous vintage till with the words ‘Independent Till I Die’ and it is utterly beautiful, I hope it will inspire you to seek out more brilliant independent businesses when you start tackling your Christmas shopping! It really is a much nicer experience when you’re shopping small!
.
Now just to get it from Yorkshire to St Margarets… it’s far too heavy to post!!Thank you, dear Andy, our campaigner extraordinaire.
