IGTV – Now is the age of the entrepreneur

In today’s IGTV I cover how I believe that Covid-19 is moving the world forward, why NOW is the age of the entrepreneur and is this the end of the single income home?

At the end of 2019, I inhaled as much information as I could about what the next decade was going to be like. You see, I – like most Founders – am a futurist. I’m utterly obsessed with what the future world is going to look like and how we can adapt to thrive in it. But I could have never predicted this and I for one am looking for the trends and positives that are accelerating day by day. What do you think, and how can we encourage this to keep moving forward?

IGTV – A Covid-19 secure High Street?

As always I’m here to talk you through the headlines and in my IGTV today I’m going to talk about building a Covid-19 secure local high street. I wanted to look at why NOW is the time for the local high street, the latest information we have about opening non-essential shops and making your shop Covid-19 Secure! I think we should all know this, shop or not!

It’s no secret that lockdown has changed our shopping habits and lots of specialists think that these changes will last post-corona too so I want you all to be informed, ready and empowered to make decisions for your businesses.

A few months ago this would have seemed all a bit impossible but we know we can adapt to anything so let’s get our best entrepreneurial hats on and start thinking about how we can adapt to ensure the local high street thrives!

IGTV – Roadmap out of lockdown

My bulletin today cover’s the government’s roadmap for easing lockdown and I’ve focused on the sections that are most relevant to YOU. These are; where we are now, the government’s 3 step plan to easing lockdown and the differences in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Please don’t forget that I know that this phase of communication from the powers that be, has not gone down as well as others they should have been more open with us and been braver, but know this is just my opinion and as yet we can not afford to not start to reboot the country. Don’t forget that this is not a short-term crisis and there is no easy or quick solution…but what I do know, is you have crazily brilliant brains and you should take the power back if you are feeling powerless.

We need to get things moving, and yet it’s not one size fits all solution at this stage – as much as we want it to be. But I for one, know I’m not an expert and have to think it is a pretty impossible task that they are dealing with. Let’s all be the entrepreneurs that we need to be and take matters and the power into our own hands!

IGTV – Looking to the future

Today, I’m going to talk to you about how we now have become more hopeful and starting to plan for the future. I am looking at the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, how to make a flexible plan and the vital importance of remaining hopeful day on day!

Know that this update an important reminder that things won’t be like they were before, and that’s okay. Thankfully we’ve all learned how adaptable we are seeing the response to my post yesterday on Instagram it looks like we all want to build a different, more positive future anyway!

So although I know some of you who prefer to have everything mapped out might be struggling, let’s embrace making a flexible plan and remain hopeful that this too will pass. I think if ANYTHING this pandemic has made me live more in the moment!

IGTV – Conscious consumerism

In my IGTV bulletin today I’m going to talk to you about conscious consumerism and what on earth this means for YOU as small businesses. I wanted to explain, in my words, what this is and how YOU can not only be a conscious consumer but sell to one too.

With the current climate, we are finally starting to break our “see it, want it, get it, move on to the next thing” habit and these changes are supporting the growing conscious consumerism movement. You see, more and more consumers are voting with their money as they use their purchasing power to make a positive impact on the world, FINALLY!

IGTV – Homeschooling

All week I’ve been talking about homeschooling; the challenges but also the opportunities it presents! I’ve been reminded that we don’t have to be maths and english experts to be the best teachers for our children and because I know this is something that SO many of you have been feeling guilty about I’m summarising my key takeaways from this week.

Yesterday Claire Russel, founder of Play Hooray, made it clear that playing is just as important to a child’s development as learning their A,B,Cs and 1,2,3s. It’s through PLAY that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. It helps develop their emotional intelligence or EQ something which is going to be more highly valued than IQ in the future workforce.

And I’m also sharing my thoughts on screen time and why it’s about quality screen time, not NO screen time.

IGTV – The future is handmade

As you can probably imagine I’m constantly hunting for inspiration – I relish in having a day (or even an hour!) to head into a new town to discover independents or immerse myself in an exhibition so at the start of lockdown I really panicked; would I struggle to keep my creative juices flowing without these physical sparks of inspiration?? Thankfully I’ve found I’m thinking about bigger and BIGGER ideas and that’s down to YOU and the brilliant experts I’ve been interviewing – every day this wonderful community shares just so many innovative ideas and art – every minute you all spark my “EUREKA!” moments and I have to grab my notepad and start scribbling.

Yesterday, as I chatted with the gorgeously funny and ever so humble Jay Blades, Presenter of BBC’s Repair Shop & Founder of Jay & Co – did you watch it? GOD, he’s brilliant! Jay and I talked about how the community is craft and craft is a community that really sparked something in my brain.

Today in this bulletin I want to talk to you about how the future will be handmade. About how we ALL need creativity right now, the importance of art during homeschooling, and the future of craft too.

IGTV – Business for good

Today in my bulletin I am going to tell you why it’s never been more important for businesses to be a force for good and why I’m making our B Corp application a priority. Excuse the postman and the dog!

We’ve talked a lot about adapting during this time but it’s important to FOCUS and although it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture, especially when you’re in “business survival mode”, but that’s when you need to really hone in on what you’re trying to achieve.

And some of you may know, Holly & Co started on our journey to become a B Corp last year. It’s a BIG undertaking and we took a little pause as launched SME: SOS. But I know that it’s even more important that we use businesses as a force for good because we need business leaders to help change the world.

So tell me, how are you going to use your business as a force for good?
If you’re looking for inspiration check out the B Corp application; it’s a great starting point even if you don’t want to become certified! I’ve pledged to be the change the world needs, in any small way I can. How about you?

IGTV – Lockdown burnout

It’s Friday and so often us small business bods push the weekend away to keep working BUT be careful with yourselves! In today’s bulletin, I’m tackling lockdown burnout – I’ve had so many interesting conversations with loved ones this week and it’s really got me thinking.

We have to put ourselves at the top of our to-do lists and my brilliant life coach Nicole reminded us this week of the importance of communicating how we feel. I am looking at how you can micro-manage, the importance of communicating your emotions, and above all, how to THRIVE not just survive.

I don’t know about you, but my emotions have been ALL over the place and it’s totally exhausting! We need to understand that we’re all going through a lot and everyone will be handling it differently, by taking the time to openly communicate and articulate our own emotions we can make sure our friends, family, colleagues and WE feel valued.

I want you to dust off who you really are, look for your purpose and passion, and please focus on what makes you happy. Understand what makes your soul shine and let it shine BRIGHT. It’s so essential to feel happiness and delight at this time, because the more you have, the more you will give to someone else who has less.

IGTV – Milestone moments

As I took a moment this morning to celebrate the sunshine and the warmth on my face, I started to think about how and why I celebrate the milestone moments of my business. We even have a ship’s bell in the office that we ring whenever something good happens!

So today I’m going to talk to you about milestone moments! What these milestones might be and why they’re just so important. Mark those bigger milestones and try to enjoy the journey – I’m one that believes in celebrating every tiny step. No matter how small – whether it’s finding a supplier that gets you, celebrating FINALLY getting that domain you wished for, or even that first order. Small victories are what it takes to drive success.

I know that without acknowledgment, celebration and gratitude we lose our sense of joy.

Celebrating gives us the motivation to power forward and you may not realise it just yet, but you’ve already reached many milestones in your life and have so many more exciting ones to come. I promise.

IGTV – Ways to support small!

Now we all know I LOVE ‘niche’, so from me to you…HAPPY WORLD STATIONERY DAY… quite possibly the best celebration ever?? My Business Bulletin today is all about supporting small; we know that local shops are keeping this country moving and now more than ever is it vital to vote with your money!

Every day we spend is a vote for the kind of world we want to live in… based on where and how we spend our money. If we don’t we make conscious decisions I worry that will all slip and sleepwalk into totally grey High Street; a monotonous online offer dominated by the likes of Amazon. I for one cannot think of anything worse. An example of ingenuity – I absolutely love the signs small businesses and newsagents have started to display – my current favourite local to me is “Please bear with us, we’ve never been this popular before and hope that it continues!” This total honesty is a brilliant way of bringing these new customers on your journey with you!

What top tips have worked for your small businesses? Do you now offer gift cards or local deliveries? What brilliant initiatives have you seen in the small business community? Share them with me at hello@holly.co or over on Instagram, or in the NEW Co-mmunity Facebook group!

As ever, please share SME: SOS with any small businesses you know, so we can reach and help as many as possible through this difficult time!
