Kintsugi Kit

£ 23.50

By Humade

It is our imperfections that make us unique and beautiful. Kintsugi is an old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold, such a beautiful way to mend our mistakes and learn that there is beauty in the cracks.

This 'Kintsugi Kit' is an alternative way of gluing porcelain. By mending rather than throwing away, you emphasise the marks and scars of a product, giving it a new perspective and beauty while creating longevity.

Feel free to also try the New Kintsugi repair kit on almost any other material next to ceramic. The story goes that Kintsugi may have originated when in the late 15th century the emperor sent his damaged pottery back to China for repairs. When it returned repaired with metal staples, he ordered his craftsmen to come up with something more aesthetic, Kintsugi (gold repair). This art became such a hype that some collectors deliberately started smashing valuable pottery so it could be repaired with the gold seams of Kintsugi.

Humade

Humade was founded by sisters Gieke & Lotte, who were united in a shared passion and dedication to create products with a bespoke and individual character. Here at Holly & Co, we adore the art of kintsugi - the process of repairing porcelain with gold. The Japanese believe that illuminating damage is beautiful, a physical expression of “mushin”, which means ‘no mind’ - fully existing in the moment. New kintsugi is a new way of gluing porcelain based on the old kintsugi technique. We’re also stocking Humade’s iron-on reMARKable gold patches, to repair your clothes to a better version of themselves.
