- As these pieces are vintage items, each set of scales is unique due to its patina and individual design.
Work/Life Balance Etched Vintage Scales
A set of vintage chemical scales etched with the words work / life, depicting the elusive balance that everyone seeks! This is the most beautiful physical manifestation of an unachievable goal, a great reminder that the scales will tip and change, and that’s okay.
Vintage pieces are sourced then handcrafted by Andy Poplar, founder of Vinegar & Brown Paper, who’s witty style marrys vintage items and clever words in perfect harmony.
A note from Holly…
“There’s no such thing as work / life balance, there’s just one life, live it”.
This product features in my book, Do What You Love, Love What You Do.
Every micro chapter within the book features a unique small business product which creatively captures the key takeaway. I truly believe in the power of small business and wanted to bring the pages of my book to life in a way never done before, and allow you to share in that magic too. Because, believe me, when you do what you love, you’ll want to wear it, have it in your home and shout it from the rooftops too!

Vinegar & Brown Paper
Vinegar & Brown Paper was founded by Andy in 2011, after he left his career in advertising. His job in the city had made him unwell, and he wanted to do something different with his life.
The idea of etching on glass came to him, and now his witty words adorn beautiful objects such as apothecary bottles, wall mirrors and even our beautiful toilet light switch at the Holly & Co Work/Shop!
Andy says that now, he feels completely fulfilled.
“I spent my entire career being paid to come up with ideas for other people. It’s only now though that I genuinely feel creatively fulfilled by what I do, because these days I spend my time coming up with ideas for me.”
You can find out more about Andy Poplar in his episode of Conversations of Inspiration. Holly chatted to Andy about his journey and how his business has gone from strength to strength over the years. A masterclass in how to build a brand with authenticity!
