On Shop Independent Day (Saturday 24th June), vote with your money for the kind of world you want to live in.

Micro businesses are essential to the UK economy — generating £1.6 Trillion and employing 16 Million people — yet 92% of small businesses don’t feel seen, heard or loved.

Whether you’re a small business or a keen independent shopper there are lots of ways you can get involved with Shop Independent Day.

Small Business, Big Voice

We asked 1,000 small businesses from across the UK to share the truth about running a small business in 2023 and 96% of businesses expressed the need for more visibility.

That’s why we’ve collaborated with Pea (aka Lucky Budgie), a talented printmaker and designer from Hastings. Together, we have created this year’s exclusive artwork for Shop Independent Day. It serves as a reminder that every purchase is a vote for the world you want.

Holly’s High Streets

One of Holly’s most asked questions is “Holly, where can I shop small?” and so this year, to coincide with #ShopIndependentDay on Saturday 24 June, we have launched ‘Holly’s High Streets’ to help shine a light on UK’s finest high streets, where wonderful independent shops continue to thrive.

We’re kickstarting with seven high streets:

  • Twickenham (Church Street)
  • Hexham (Market Street)
  • Haworth (Main Street)
  • Holt (throughout the town)
  • Frome (Cheap Street and Catherine Hill)
  • Folkestone (Old High Street)
  • Darlington (our special competition winner!)

The shops on these high streets have personalities and are filled with unique and innovative products. They bring colour to the street with creative window displays whilst championing traditional customer service and community spirit.

Throughout the summer they will be adorned with our exclusive ‘Flying the flags for small businesses’ flags by Dave Buonaguidi — the perfect excuse to go and visit them and take a picture or two.

We will be sharing more about these high streets over the summer and our goal is to add more high streets each year to create the little black book of independents across the UK!

Highlights from Folkestone

Not many people can have a day as we did in Folkestone with incredible weather, a vibrant community, personalised rock, chips with a small business fork and call it work. But that’s what happens when you build a life that you love  and your passion becomes your career. Watch the highlights from the day.

With the hugest of thanks to our small business supporters
