Katch Skinner
hebden bridge, West Yorkshire
I use all sorts of hand building and mould making for slip casting . Each earthenware piece is unique, using hand painted underglazes, slips for mono printing and sgraffito. I love ceramics - all types and processes, taking the wet clay and changing it be something totally different from its original state. There is still an excitement for me every time I go to open the kiln, I am always learning from it, it’s a medium that keeps you on your toes and has an addictive alchemy.
In my making process everything is made from scratch, design, sculpt, mould making, casting, fettling, painting, firing and glazing is all done from my studio in Hebden Bridge, I make in small batches and the work is not mass produced.
Alongside domestic ware, I also make one-off pieces for exhibitions and commissions.
I also love sharing my love for clay and have years of ceramic teaching experience from adult education up to degree level and run weekly courses at Northlight Art Studios.
