Vinegar & Brown Paper
POOL IN WHARFEDALE, YORKSHIRE
For those that love wit, typography and a slightly askew way of looking at the world, Vinegar & Brown Paper presents his collection of etched apothecary glass bottles.
Individually sandblasted, each bottle is created by artist Andy Poplar in his studio in the North of England. Featured in magazines, TV programmes and social media posts, his range of bottles can be found on the desks of writers, artists, scientists and those that revel in wordplay from York to New York.

I’d been working as a creative in the advertising industry for over a decade, when I arrived at a point where I couldn’t carry on doing the job as it was making me deeply unhappy and deeply unfulfilled. One day (a particularly bad Tuesday) I stood up from my desk and walked out. The next day I was diagnosed with depression and ended up handing in my resignation.
After two years of slowly trying to get myself back together, (in which I became a father and ‘stay-at-home-dad’), I began playing around with some new ideas (just for fun really). One of these ideas was etching words onto glass and so I proceeded to teach myself how to do it.
The name itself came from the nursery rhyme ‘Jack & Jill’, in which the titular hero Jack falls down, then gets up and sets off to mend his head…with Vinegar & Brown Paper.
Which is exactly what I’ve been doing ever since.
