This piece is the very first stages of Rugman's 'Pulp Rock: Nostalgia Bomb' series.
Made from original 1970’s comic book pages, wheat pasted to the heaviest paper around to give it an almost 'bill poster' look. Then drenched it in 3 coats of varnish gloss before painting and stencilling the iconic Popeye the sailor.
Pop pulp icon atom bomb
Using the finest and thickest water colour paper which is 450gsm and hand made. This thickness means I can use heavy opaque paints and glosses to get the saturated colours I am looking for.
