Hi, I’m Charlotte, costume maker turned small business owner, and a strong believer in making small, meaningful lifestyle changes to work towards a better future for our planet. I’ve made it my goal to supply the conscious consumer with premium linens that will elevate their homes. Trained to make garments fit to withstand long runs on stage, my products have inbuilt longevity, and are made from 100% linen, a beautiful and sustainable natural fabric.

The story behind the business
Meet Cloth & Clay

I grew up by the seaside in West Sussex, and moved to London in 2012 to train as a costume maker for theatre. Thriving in the industry for several years, I hit a hurdle when the theatres closed in 2020, but found myself pivoting to set up my homeware brand Cloth & Clay, which helped me find calm amidst the chaos. This theme became a core part of my business.

As a person of colour raised in a small town, I’ve always felt most myself amongst the diversity of the city, but often found myself craving the peace and quiet of the coast. I made it my mission to bring those calm and natural themes into the home, working with muted colour palettes and natural materials to help make the home a haven.

I choose to work with linen, the strongest of the natural fabrics, as it is very sustainable to produce. My products are everyday home essentials of a luxury quality.
