Ecotribo was founded by Tyrone, a lifelong surfer from South Africa and his wife Carrie after years working in the creative industries of advertising and television. Precious free time spent on the coast made the growing menace of ocean plastic impossible to ignore. What began with beach cleans soon evolved into a focussed mission: give discarded fishing nets a meaningful second life. Failing to find established recyclers to help them, they rented community hub machines and began transforming recovered nets into small batches of beautifully useful objects. Now championing the empowering effect of microfactory recycling from their base in North Devon, Ecotribo pioneers EcoTraceAbility®, a geolocation system that challenges greenwashing, showing exactly which beach each net came from and celebrating the communities helping protect our seas.
