Kelly-Anne Davitt

EAST LONDON

Artist and curator Kelly-Anne Davitt is known for hyper-real virtuoso painting style in vibrant pop tones, and her humorous and provocative light-sculptures. Her electrifyingly immaculate canvases fuse traditional still life and portraiture with a contemporary approach, inspired by advertising imagery, pop culture, nostalgic childhood memories and feminist themes. She has exhibited widely across the UK from Cork Street to The Potteries.

The story behind the business
Meet Kelly-Anne Davitt

My obsession with painting retro packaging began in the 2020 lockdown, which coincided with my 40th birthday. I received a box of 1980s themed sweets, including Bubbly, Fruit Salad and Love Hearts.

Through these intricate paintings, I began to explore the nostalgia that product packaging triggers, prompting many people to share their childhood memories with me.

This work continues a theme that has long fascinated me, that advertising images and product packaging promise so much but rarely deliver the perfect ideal.

I love the bold plump fonts, bright colours and the way the light highlights form and texture. It produces a never ending palette of colour, form and shine.

For the print editions of the original paintings, I enhance the colours, giving them a vibrancy of their own. I choose paper with a beautiful fine art tooth, that reflects the texture of canvas.
