I never thought I could be a calligrapher, but life took me down an unexpected path, and here I am! Hello. I'm Claire.

There's something really therapeutic about nibs and letters, and dippy ink pots. At a time in my life when I needed to heal, I found calligraphy. The gentle movements of my pen as it dances through letters helped me find calmness and rebuild my confidence.

At the same time I came home to the Lake District where I grew up. Spending time in nature inspired my practice, and day by day I grew my calligraphy business, writing poems and teaching workshops along the way.

From my home I can see the Lake District fells. I spend my days using calligraphy for gifts and poems, in a slow, mindful and creative life I love. This careful practice, crafting letters entirely by hand and using centuries-old techniques, is what Lakes Calligraphy Co is all about.
