I'm Georgie Dawson, the owner and maker behind Magic Pink Designs. Originally from Somerset, I now live and work in Hastings, East Sussex.

Art has always been my passion, a love nurtured by my parents who were both full-time artists. Growing up in a creative home, I was constantly surrounded by inspiration and encouraged to explore my artistic side. I remember I was always asking for paper to draw on and my Mum or Dad having to rustle through to find more!

My journey into making handmade lampshades began a lot later in my twenties and began quite serendipitously. I had inherited a beautiful ceramic lamp base from my grandparents, but it was in dire need of a new shade. During a visit to a lovely local haberdashery with a friend, I fell in love with some fabric and decided to try making a lampshade for the base myself (and I was rather happy with the result!) That was over five years ago, and I haven’t looked back since.

Creating lampshades has become a true joy for me, and recently, I’ve expanded my craft to include bunting. This addition has allowed me to make use of the small bits of fabric left over from my lampshades, ensuring that nothing goes to waste, and great, fun pieces in their own right (win win!)

My designs are always colourful and cheerful, aimed at bringing joy and creativity into people’s homes. I think daily activities can be made more delightful if we have inspiring visual experiences when we see or use them, no matter how big or small. I believe that home is a sanctuary, and my pieces are crafted to make it a place of happiness and inspiration.

I chose the name “Magic Pink Designs” because as a child, I was always captivated by the beauty of sunsets. The vibrant hues of pink, orange, and purple that painted the sky during those magical moments became my favourite time of the day. I fondly referred to these enchanting sunsets as “magic pink” name that has stayed with me ever since. When I started my business, I wanted a name that reflected the joy and wonder I felt during those sunset moments. I like to think that “Magic Pink Designs” perfectly encapsulates the essence of my creations—colourful, joyful, and designed to bring a touch of magic into people’s homes.
