Mink
London
Something between a boutique and a joke shop.
Mink is a design shop founded by artist Martha Hegarty in 2020. It creates objects that draw from a wide range of tones and themes: from jokes to pop culture to history, landmarks and theatre.
Mink has created work in collaboration with a number of organisations, including Pollock's Toy Museum, the National Theatre, the British Library, MUBI, Picturehouse & the National Gallery of Ireland.
Proudly independent
A few favourite PIECEs
I started Mink with the aim of having a project that was completely in my own style and purely for the fun of creating. I was working as a graphic designer and production designer at the time, and was curious to see if I could make objects that were in my own voice rather than adhering to a client brief.
I specifically wanted to make things that you could wear and carry with you - so settled on enamel pins as wearable pictures that have a surprising amount of possibility and versatility. I see Mink as the intersection between my backgrounds in art history, set design, graphic design and visual storytelling. Concept and presentation (and fun) are at the heart of the business in all its mediums.
Martha Hegarty is an Irish designer currently based in London. She holds an MA in Modern & Contemporary Art History and has worked in various creative fields across Ireland, Switzerland, Vietnam & the UK.
