Penguin Ink

downend, bristol

Hi I’m Lizzie, the designer behind Penguin Ink luxury letterpress cards and homewares. Working from my garden studio my designs are inspired by my love for nature, featuring my favourite flora and fauna. Our cards are traditionally pressed by lovely local family printers. Letterpress is a beautiful technique, using gorgeous old machines, it is a true craft. My designs are striking and simple using just one or two colours to depict the shadows, highlights of the form, using simple lines and shapes creating a lovely texture on the cards.

The story behind the business
Meet Penguin Ink

Penguin Ink was launched in 2015 whilst I was on Maternity leave with my eldest child Flo. I had the time to play and create some design work just for me. I showed it to a local shop and I got such a wonderful reaction I started designing my first collection. Once I went back to work I sent the first 16 designs off to print. It’s been the best decision of my life. I have always loved letterpress printing and love to see new designs come to life when they come off the printing press. In the past two years I’ve started creating homewares with my favourite designs.

I’m inspired by nature, animals and the environment around me, designing from my garden studio, in Bristol. Sustainability is really important to me, using recycled, recyclable materials and offcuts. I love to make products that are loved and last, by using quality materials made in the UK.
