I studied Illustration at Norwich University, graduating in 2021. The experience was cut short during my second year when Covid hit, and I didn’t enjoy the relentless Teams calls and staring at a screen. I realised I needed to find a way of creating away from screens, and loved getting covered in ink and clay instead. I wrote my dissertation on the link between comedy and Dadaism, and this humorous and word-based influence has been incorporated into much of my work ever since.

I began RACHLLOYDPRESS shortly after I graduated, because I basically had no idea what I wanted to do with myself. The ‘press’ bit of my name links to my printing press, of which I now have three! The printing presses are integral to both letterpress and linocut prints, to achieve a crisp and even finish. Letterpress printing requires a lot of pressure to transfer the ink to the paper. I love being able to offer unique and hand-made artworks, and playing with colour schemes and type.

I think the action of pressing is important in all of my work, like pressing stamps into clay, or adding an inky face to my prints.
