Yael Rosenberg Ceramics
London
Yael is a designer, primarily dedicated to creating ceramic objects, with a particular fascination for working with porcelain and appreciating its distinct characteristics.
She explores the relationship between people and the objects that surround them, emphasizing the emotional value of handmade pieces and recognizing their significance in our lives.
I started working with clay when I was 16, (16 years ago!- do the math). I took pottery classes in a studio in my small hometown and fell in love with the wheel. It was a hobby on and off for 10 years until I started taking it more seriously, tons of practicing and taking professional courses.
I studied industrial design and around that time I was first introduced to porcelain during my exchange semester at Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
There are a few key moments in creating these patterned pieces that are truly exciting. The first is carving the pattern while the wheel spins. While I have some control over the outcome, it is not completely predictable.
The second moment comes when I open the kiln after high firing. This is when I finally see the full result, the colours, the variations in pattern thickness, and the translucency that adds a beautiful depth to the surface.
