Inspired by the language of flowers ~ where sentiments were once quietly expressed through blooms ~ and devotional saint medals, small tokens worn for comfort, protection, and remembrance...
I was drawn to the thought that flowers might hold that same quiet power, carried close as a form of protection, given as a blessing, or kept as a reminder of love and strength. Chosen to speak gently, when words themselves feel too much, or not quite enough.
Our medal charms are made with real flowers in sterling silver, using the traditional technique of lost wax casting. Each piece is carefully boxed, with our seasonal scented posy, and a Victorian puzzle purse holds the meanings and folklore behind your flowers. The story there, when it's opened.
Charms will arrive strung on a ribbon or attached to your chosen accessory, along with the option of an Albert swivel clasp. First used on Victorian watch chains, it allows your charm to move between chain and bracelet, a small detail that makes a big difference.
The forget-me-not’s Latin name, Myosotis, comes from the Greek for “mouse’s ear,” after the soft shape of its tiny leaves. In German folklore, a knight and his lady once walked beside a river when she noticed a cluster of small blue flowers along the bank. As he stooped to gather them, the weight of his armour pulled him into the current. As he was swept away, he called out, “Forget me not!” She wore those flowers in her hair for the rest of her days, and they became a symbol of faithful love and remembrance. The flower was later adopted by Henry IV in 1398 as his emblem during exile ~ a sign of loyalty and return ~ and centuries later by the Freemasons, as a discreet token of recognition. In older belief, forget-me-nots were worn in May to guard against witchcraft and fairy enchantment, while in the Victorian era, they were exchanged between lovers and sent to distant friends as a promise to remember.
