Description

A walking guide to 20th-Century Housing on the Isle of Dogs in East London...

A walking guide to 20th-Century Housing on the Isle of Dogs in East London.

The Isle of Dogs, a peninsula in the East End of London has seen dramatic changes over the last 50 years. The industrial decline of the 1960s saw its docks close and, following the formation of the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) in 1981 there was a surge in the redevelopment of the area. London Docklands was one of the most important town planning and industrial reclamation schemes of late-20th-century Britain.

The walk covers some of the the islands most celebrated housing schemes, including those by CZWG, Jeremy Dixon and Jestico + Whiles, as well as the pioneering self-build scheme by Stout & Litchfield.
