I began painting food in 2019 when I left the city and moved back to where I grew up. In the spring, wild garlic was abundant and elderflower lacily dressed the hedgerows in early summer. The turning of each season felt vivid. We had a vegetable patch so we cooked, and I painted, with the seasons. I love to bake, try out new recipes and potter in the kitchen so it felt natural that I would start painting the foraged ingredients, the birthday cakes baked, or the bun I’d just bought for breakfast. I love painting plants and animals so they creep into my card designs from time to time too. I create my illustrations by collaging hand painted paper layers to make textured illustrations which are then digitally printed onto recycled card to turn into greetings cards. I now live by sea and paint bright and playful illustrations inspired by the fruits of the land I love.
