Lucy Started her business in 2005. She had always had a dream of having her own workshop in Cornwall, making things for a living and being by the sea. Then, when an opportunity arose after graduating in 3d design, to apply for a “next Move’ scheme, funded by the arts and crafts council in Falmouth. Her dream was beggininning to come to fruition. She went to an interview at the university of Falmouth,for a two year placement to help start a creative business, and she was awarded the place. It was a dream come true.

There, on the placement she learnt how to use a laser cutter and was inspired to create something unique with the newly acquired skills. She had always loved the look and feel of formica and then an idea was born. Lucy’s first ‘sale’ happened at an exhibition, her 6-foot-long teak sideboard customised with laser cut formica was picked up by a very happy customer within hours of the show opening. That was the career defining moment and she knew then that she was on to something!’ That was twenty years ago, and since then Lucy’s relationship with Formica has cemented her place in the marquetry world. ‘What’s not to like about Formica? It’s vibrant, durable, heat and scratch resistant.

After growing the business for 14 years in Cornwall, she now lives in Somerset, where she is from originally. She lives and works from her small holding near Bath/ Bristol and the Mendip Hills.
