Description

'Up North' handprinted letterpress print...

'Up North' handprinted letterpress print

Celebrating the fiercely protected heritage of northerners and southerners (see my Up North print) in original typographic art.

This print has been created by hand by me in my studio, using vintage wooden type blocks. They wooden type blocks are hand set, hand inked, and then handpressed using eco-friendly professional printing inks onto lovely heavyweight acid-free paper.

Each one is printed by hand, by me, in my Yorkshire studio. Because all my prints are printed by hand this makes every single one of them a unique reproduction, and subtle variations will occur from print to print in the detail. For example different amounts of ink will transfer and the vintage nature of the wooden letter blocks show on the print. Which all mean that each print is unique, and to me is the whole beauty of the process and creation of handmade prints - no two prints are ever exactly the same! You get a piece of art that is individual and unique.

My prints are created in limited editions, so each print is hand numbered and signed by me in pencil.

Medium: Original letterpress print - hand set, hand inked, hand pressed

Paper size: 42 cms x 29 cms which fits a standard frame size

Ink: Professional rich black printmakers ink

Paper: A lovely white, lightly textured, acid-free printing paper.

Edition size: Limited edition of 100

Each handmade print is signed and numbered in pencil by the artist (me!).

Need to know

To be really clear, you are purchasing the print only. No frames or mounts included - framed and mounted prints shown in my images are for illustration purposes only.

Packaging: All my prints come unframed, with a protective card backing, and wrapped in a clear protective compostable & biodegradable alternative to cellophane. No plastic here! Then packed inside a card backed envelope.

Planet: I want my print making to have the least impact on the plant as possible. So I use professional UK made vegetable oil based eco-friendly printmaking inks (and no solvents are used in the studio). All prints are sent to you in plastic-free packaging too

Atelier Susan Bradley

York, Yorkshire

Susan creates original and innovative work with a distinctive graphic quality. Her art is created by hand printmaking - using letterpress, lino cut and mono printing techniques. Her fascination with these handmade analogue techniques and with 'slow art' drives her creative output. She loves how each piece she hand makes is absolutely unique. How each piece is made with care and attention, and how creating by hand produces what might seem like 'imperfections' in our perfect digital world (finger prints, different weights of ink and the like ) yet are actually what creates their beauty.

She combines a simple, graphic style for which she in known with either striking monochrome or rich metallics.

Her inspiration comes from inspirational poems, song lyrics, wild swimming, contemporary culture and ancient wisdoms, folklore, protest art and feminisim.
