Crafted from beautifully soft velvet and linen, this penguin is completely handmade in my studio on the Isle of Wight. Don’t worry though, just because he’s made on the sunniest island in Britain it doesn’t mean he’s not prepared for every eventuality. With his real leather satchel of tweed fish to stave off hunger on long journeys and his woven tweed scarf to keep him warm, he’s ready for big adventures.

He’ll make the perfect gift for any penguin loving child or adult (is there anyone that doesn’t love a penguin?). And because you know exactly where he’s made you can give a gift knowing it’s sustainable and long lasting. We’re talking heirlooms here, not landfill.

Whether you’re looking for a gift for a child, an adult, or just for yourself (yes you deserve a penguin too), you can give this one knowing that you’re giving a gift that won’t need to be tidied away at the end of the day. This is a gift of a stylish, beautiful penguin that will bring a playfulness and joy to any corner of a home. He’s made to be played with, but he’s also made to look good!

My inspiration for all my creatures comes from my own childhood obsessions with nature and birds, The Famous Five and the wild Dungeness coastline. And in recent years by the incredible island I now call home.

I make creatures that will evoke childhood memories for the grown up children, and create childhood memories for the children of today.

Need to know

Although he’s pretty sure he’s a King penguin, he’s not quite as tall as one, standing at approximately 34 cm’s tall.

The penguin is made from dark navy 100% cotton velvet (main body) and white linen.
His beak is orange corduroy and his feet are leather.
His eyes are embroidered and hand sewn on.

He is stuffed with hypoallergenic stuffing and has a small bag of (uncooked) rice in his bottom (to weigh him down slightly). Although he has a little extra weight to his bottom he’s not heavy and would make a rubbish door stop, sorry.

His satchel is made of leather and his three fish are made of tweed and are stuffed with hypoallergenic stuffing and don’t smell at all fishy. His scarf is tweed and linen and can be removed.

Because he is made of velvet and has a small bag of rice in him, it’s best to only gently spot wash him. No machine washing I’m afraid.

Treefall

Isle of wight

Hi there! I’m Manda McGrory the designer/maker behind Treefall. I create all my creatures and clothing by hand in my studio on the Isle of Wight.

My inspiration for all my creatures comes from my own childhood obsessions with nature and birds, The Famous Five and the wild Dungeness coastline (where we had a family home). And in recent years by the incredible island I now call home.

Life on the island has not only led to the creation of the Treefall collection of creatures and clothing but also to my obsessions with surfing, skateboarding and running. Which means that when I’m not in my studio, I can be found surfing and enjoying a meal at the beach, in my beloved camper van (Gareth), or skating at Canopy, my local skatepark.
