Mackerel Side Plate

This is a very lovely little side plate that matches my mackerel mug perfectly or of course it can be purchased on its own or as a set. Perfect for a piece of toast or cake.
As with most of my other ceramics it is hand built. I roll out the clay and cut it to a very slightly off perfect circle and when it has hardened a bit I turn up the edges. When it’s dry it’s time to decorate…. One of my favourite bits….. first I paint the whole plate in white underglaze to make those fishes really pop and then paint each fish with 6 shades of blue and green paint. Ready for bisque firing now 😊 . Some 24hours later ( yes ceramics teaches you patience for sure) the plate comes out and can now be glazed in my lovely silky, satin finish clear glaze and you guessed it….. Fired again! Finally it’s finished and ready to cheer you every time you use it, with or without my matching mackerel mug.
