Red Herring Idiom plate...
Red Herring Idiom plate
My plates are hand made from stoneware clay decorated using coloured slips, underglazes and a paper stencil technique. The meaning of Red Herring on the base of the plate reads 'Something that misleads or distracts from the relevant or important question. In a piece by journalist William Corbett, he criticizes the British press about the incorrect news of Napoleon's defeat. He equates this 'fake news' to when he used a red herring to deflect hounds in pursuit of a hare'
Each plate is unique due to the nature of hand making and the unpredictability of the kiln firing. They are sturdy, functional and dishwasher proof. They sometimes display characteristic minor imperfections.
