Description

The HEDGE WITCH necklace is my imagined representation of the character of the ‘Hedge Witch’, who was the inspiration for my new collection of the same name.

She is based on two of my favourite Medieval illustrations, which I merged together and re-drew, creating a lino cut artwork which I used to design the pendant. Her hair is part foliage and she carries plant cuttings in her hands.

I was inspired by the traditional herb lore taught and practiced by solitairy Hedge Witches, our connection with nature and the healing power of plants.

Each piece is struck from the same original design, therefore although the central design is always the same, there will be small variations in size and shape. Each pendant will therefore be unique to you.

Need to know

The pendant measures approx 2.7cm high x 2cm wide, not including the attached jump ring or bail.

It comes with a 14K gold filled or sterling silver cable chain with spring ring clasp. The circumference of the chain is 18".

*Bronze will naturally gradually develop a patina/dullness over time (called oxidisation). To keep your Studio Rua necklace looking its best please avoid spraying perfume or putting lotion on the skin next to the jewellery. Remove jewellery before swimming or bathing. It is best to keep it stored in a cool and dry area when not being worn. All these things should help keep your necklace looking it's best!

Light tarnish/patina on bronze can be removed by light regular cleaning with a jewellery polishing cloth. A good natural method to keep your bronze clean is to mix equal parts lemon juice with baking soda, mix, then add your jewellery and leave for 10-15 minutes or as long as required. Remove and brush with a soft toothbrush, then and dry thoroughly. Repeat if needed.

A small note on the gold-filled chains and findings I use in all the Studio Rua pieces:

"Gold filled" comprises a solid layer of gold (14k) permanently bonded to a base metal, such as brass. The minimum layer of gold must equal at least 1/20th the weight of the total item. It is very hard wearing and under normal wear the gold will not peel or flake, unlike gold plate and is commonly used as a more economical alternative to pure gold.

All the metals I work with (bronze, silver and 9ct gold) are recycled and the bronze doesn't contain nickel.

MODERN AND PLAYFUL JEWELLERY INSPIRED BY ANCIENT ADORNMENT AND FOLK TRADITIONS.

All Studio Rua jewellery is thoughtfully designed and handmade, using the age old technique of lost wax casting. I create my original wax design by hand, which leaves subtle traces of fingerprints and tools marks, much like ancient treasure unearthed from archaeological digs. I primarily draw my inspiration from ancient jewellery, British folk traditions and Mother Nature. My designs unashamedly embrace imperfection, the visibility of the maker is celebrated.
