This large, freestanding paper sculpture depicts the king of the corvids, the raven. He is made with handprinted papers in deep black shades, with metallic lustres added so his feathers have a gentle hue of green and gold. In dim light he looks black, but he shimmers in the sunshine, aided by his UV protective lacquer with a satin sheen.
His beak is dark grey and his eyes are black. His body is completely covered in layers of hand cut feathers. He balances on two paper-wrapped steel wire feet, and he rocks gently when you press on his beak, designed to be stable and hard to topple over. This striking figure would make a statement on your desk or mantlepiece.
He perches on a handmade tree stump adorned with hydrangea blooms, which are mottled green and white, with just a little bit of pink.
