This yellow and green budgie sculpture is made from hand printed papers in bright yellow and green. I hand print the papers I use, so his markings are unique to him and he is one of a kind. His entire body is covered with hand cut paper feathers. He has black and white cheek details and strong, paper wrapped steel wire feet, making him sturdy on his feet. His eyes are shiny black faceted beads.

25 cm (10 inches) from beak to tail tip.

Budgies are one of my favourite birds. I think it’s their adorable cheeks! It’s actually my favourite part of making them- adding the cheek details. No two has ever had the same markings. I use a variety of tiny little diamantes.

These yellow and green markings represent the original colours of the first budgies imported to Britain. I recently had an order from an American gallery, and it took me a moment to realise our budgies are what they call parakeets! Parakeet is a much broader term here, for any long tailed parrot. English budgies are known to be the largest by some way. My favourite budgie fact is that their eyesight is so spectacular that they can process over 150 images per second. Humans, by comparison, can process up to 16!

Made from recycled 300 gsm paper (sturdy cardstock).
Varnished with a UV protective lacquer.

Welcome to the paper sculpture menagerie. My name is Kate and I make handmade paper sculptures to bring cheer to your décor. Every one of my pieces is one of a kind, made from recycled 300 gsm paper (really sturdy cardstock). Each design is tested for durability, and they are varnished with a UV protective lacquer to seal their edges and protect their vibrant colours. Each sculpture is designed, individually printed, cut, assembled and embellished entirely by hand to make sure each and every one has its own unique character. Birds are my most favourite subject. I also make flowers and other wildlife. I am inspired by countryside walks and garden visitors. I often describe myself as a seasonal maker, as I can often be found at my desk making cosy pieces in the autumn and bright, cheerful blooms in the summertime. I’ve been making my sculptures for over 15 years now, and my work aims to evoke the joy I find in the great outdoors. I do hope they make you smile.
