Handcrafted Yakisugi candle holder and luxury hand poured candle, with an uplifting geranium fragrance. Comes with your first candle refill included!
The candle holder is made from solid oak, charred black using a 16th century Japanese technique called Yakisugi, that involves using only fire to colour, seal, and preserve hard woods. Charring the wood is followed by cooling, combing, sanding, and cleaning. The final part of the making is wiping the pot with a natural oil. What results has a new form, texture, feel, and presence. It really is a magical process!
The eco candles are made in small batches, from soy wax infused with organic geranium oil. I love the smell of geranium, a beautiful and uplifting fragrance with soothing and healing properties. Traditionally geranium symbolises friendship, good health and positive emotions. Candle light gives a stunning golden glow against the charred black holder.
The candle holders are easily refillable with our drop-in refills, so you can use them over and over again.
As with all candles, ideally the first time the candle is lit, allow a pool of wax to form by burning for at least two hours. This ensures an even burn.
To clean the holder once the candle has finished, place the holder upside down on greaseproof paper in an oven warmed to 70 degrees. After ten minutes, wipe with brown or greaseproof paper to remove any remaining remnants of wax. You can now insert your refill! 'Need to know' information is included with your candle holder.

Hi, I’m Hayley - a maker, obsessed with cooking, and seeing food beautifully presented.
I’ve been transforming wood, fabrics, and furniture for over 20 years, working mainly on commissions and with chefs and event designers.
Since moving to the UK in 2016, Yakisugi (or charring) has been the focus of my work.
Each item in my wooden tableware collection is designed to accentuate the colour and texture of food, as it contrasts so beautifully with the charred wood.
