A simple star to sit proudly on top of the Christmas tree. This was the first tree topper I ever made (not counting the time I stuck a Sindy doll in a white frock up there) and it's the product I credit with setting me off on this string odyssey...
A simple star to sit proudly on top of the Christmas tree. This was the first tree topper I ever made (not counting the time I stuck a Sindy doll in a white frock up there) and it's the product I credit with setting me off on this string odyssey.
I've been making these toppers for three years now, and whilst I'm always tweaking certain bits, the process is essentially the same. The string is French knitted to form a hollow cord, threaded with wire and then sculpted by hand into a star at my old oak dining table. Loose or unintentionally wonky tree toppers have always been a bit of a bugbear of mine, so having a well fitting coil for my tree toppers is critical to their pertness and involves winding wire round a special former (AKA the handle of a wooden spoon).
I make the Simple Star Tree Toppers in two sizes:
Standard Star | 15cm x 15cm x 1cm (total length including the coil is 25cm)
Perfect for small to medium sized Christmas trees, or on larger trees if you prefer a more subtle statement.
Large Star measures | 21cm x 21cm x 1cm (total length including the coil is 30cm)
Works really well on large Christmas trees, although it can make a great statement piece on a medium sized tree too.
To fix the Star to your tree, twist the wire coil around the leader branch. I liken it to plaiting them together rather than fixing one to the other. I make the coil in two sizes:
Standard Coil | 1cm diameter
Will fit securely to most real Christmas trees and narrower artificial trees.
Wide Coil | 2cm in diameter
A good choice for fuller trees, especially larger artificial trees.
Please do bear in mind these items are hand made so all measurements I give are approximate.
I use Everlasto strings and twines from the James Lever Factory in Bolton, UK, where they've been manufacturing twine, cord and rope for over 150 years. Natural cotton string is intended for practical uses so slight inconsistencies in colour, flecks and blemishes are all part of the charm.
All my string "things" are plastic free. I keep marketing materials to a minimum and all packaging I use can be re-used, composted and/or widely recycled.
The delivery options for this item are listed below (if it doesn't state 'Express delivery' then that option is not available for this product). As soon as you place your order, this small business will spring into action, get it ready and send it out... (and you can feel wonderful for supporting them).
