A set a dozen handprinted vintage-inspired BLANK ON ONE SIDE postcards.
This set of twelve postcards (four each of three designs) were inspired by my love of theatre and of classic design. The theatre illustrations are probably 70 years old and I brought them back to life by asking Lisa at Lyme Bay Press to make them into type-high photo polymer plates and the gorgeous lettering is 72pt FESTIVAL TITLING - newly cast for me by Ed and Omar at Hellbox.
The type was designed by Phillip Boydell and issued by Monotype in 1950 as the official display face for the Festival of Britain, a national exhibition held throughout the United Kingdom in the summer of 1951.
The final design also uses a Mark McKelier wooden star and a photo polymer plate of a starburst in contrasting colours.
I put them all together on an Adana 1950's 8x5 press and handprinted them using Lyme Bay Press oil-based ink on postcards cut from thick GFSmith card stock.
To be honest they feel too good to send as postcards - I am tempted to make myself a set and frame them together as an art print.
