Angela Evans

Brighton, East Sussex

I make ceramic tiles in a little studio, situated in a secluded garden where my fruit and vegetable tiles can grow alongside the apples and peas.

I have 30 years of experience designing and making bespoke tiles of all shapes and sizes. My tiles have been used in all sorts of interiors and collected as decorative objects in themselves for display on walls, shelves and mantelpieces.

I am lucky enough to do what I love, and it makes people happy too!

The story behind the business
Meet Angela Evans

I studied 3D Design at art college in order to learn craft skills, but my heart has always been more into art than product design. I began my journey by experimenting, using plaster to collect textures, inspired by the colourful food markets of East London. In my final degree show I produced huge slabs of ‘texture’ from carrot tops and frozen blackberries.

When I moved to my first studio, I took my rudimentary experiments to an upmarket tile shop. Luckily, they were very excited, and the Fruit and Vegetable range of tiles was born.

I find the whole process, from taking a plaster cast of the initial fruit or vegetable, to the repetitive process of pressing clay into moulds and applying all the lush glazes very satisfying.

My tiles have a timeless quality and so make great presents for collectors, interior designers, food enthusiasts and gardeners.
