Kettle of Fish Designs
YARM, North Yorkshire
Hi, I'm Karen and I'm the sole pair of hands behind Kettle of Fish Designs.
My work has a distinctive style - it's made for homes which have a personality that develops over time and doesn't necessarily follow trends. Many of the materials I use are recycled, reclaimed, repurposed or upcycled and this enhances the distinctive character that you only get from handmade.
I combine vintage imagery with a rustic aesthetic, so my pieces really suit environments that combine inherited pieces, quirky collections and secondhand finds.
I'm Karen Kench, the Designer/Maker behind the company. Originally from Sheffield, I now live and work in the small town of Yarm in the north-east. I’m a Fine Art graduate and have worked as a proofreader and database manager, which has all given me a different perspective on design and has helped hone my eye for detail.
Kettle of Fish Designs started by accident in 2009 when I was making unusual jewellery for myself and began to get custom enquiries. My ideas developed into designs for interiors and I now have a diverse product range that includes both. I love being able to spend my days being creative and providing customers with beautiful and unusual things to suit their own style.
I’m lucky to be able to work from a home studio and workshop that combines all the space I need to design, make and photograph products.
