A-Z Of Trees A3 Limited Edition Risograph Print

A quiet study of native British trees, drawn using a single formula and printed in a limited edition of 60.

Drawing native British tree species using one single formula. All my work incorporates data, and it's through data that I've learnt so much about the natural world. This piece gives a glimpse into an earlier stage, where I've created a single formula to draw every native tree species in the British Isles.

At the mention of data, thoughts of computers and cold, hard facts tend to crop up. But data is really just a series of observations. To view data as observations personalises the word, making it less unfathomable and more relatable.

Normally when I draw, I have to study the subject. But when I have to translate this into a formula, I realise how little I've really looked. Using data makes me look much deeper and ultimately understand much more. This print is the result of that looking, where each tree has been drawn to scale using a single formula.
