The Blue Morpho butterfly (Morpho peleides) is indigenous to Central and South America. Its dazzling, iridescent blue wings, which can span up to 20cm, are created by microscopic scales that refract light. Blue Morphos inhabit lush rainforests and are known for their graceful flight. While their wings are brilliant blue when open, they reveal a cryptic brown underside with eye spots when closed.
