Here is my gorgeous hand built white stoneware mug. Absolutely everything about this ceramic mug is handmade by me and so no two are exactly the same. It’s quite a lengthy process, making a slab, joining into a cylinder, making and putting on bottom and finally the handle. I handbuild most of my work and this also has the added bonus that I can make them all the same in size and my wheelthrowing is not that perfect … (yet! ). Once I have made the mug I handpaint all those lovely mackerel onto each mug using 6 shades of blue and green underglazes. Then the mug is bisque fired. The last stage is glazing in a silky, satin finish glaze which people love as it’s so nice to feel. Then into final firing.
If you want to really spoil yourself ( or make a super special present then why not add my cute little mackerel side plate to your order. Perfect for a slice of toast or piece of cake to go with your tea or coffee.

Need to know

Made from white stoneware clay dug up from a clay pit overlooking the sea in St Agnes in Cornwall (a few miles down the road from me) . It is a hard wearing clay that can safely be put in the dishwasher..
This is a nice square mug approximately 10 cms tall and wide holding what I would call a good cup of tea or coffee.
