With each Scallop Ceramic Shell , the soft clay is pressed into a plaster mould. I made this mould from a cast of a real scallop shell .
Once bisc-fired, the first firing , the shell is then hand painted with Pink and yellow underglazes , then a clear glaze is applied on top, and layerings of other shell coloured stoneware glazes , before going into the kiln for the second time, this time for the stoneware glaze firing, at a temperature of 1240 degree centigrede.
Each shell is handpainted individually , Each pattern is unique .
