Description

A much loved classic willow basket given a contemporary twist in natural white and indigo dyed willow. Combining style and practicality, perfect for use as both a handbag or chic shopping basket.

Known as an Ose, Gathering, Hen or Skye basket, and documented across Europe since Medieval times, this frame basket involves a meticulous process of weaving willow rods around a series of hoops and ribs.

Each Indigo Ose basket is unique, handwoven and made using locally sourced willow. Having recently developed creating indigo dyed willow through a natural vat fermentation process, Sarah Le Breton has chosen to contrast and blend shades of this distinctive blue colour, accentuating this basket’s beautiful rhythm and flow.

The Indigo Ose basket is part of a new distinctive collection that Sarah has created for you which both exemplifies her style, (and hopefully yours!) whilst embodying our rich UK basket craft heritage.

Handcrafted by Sarah in her Devon workshop, it is her aim to weave within each basket a magical combination of function, beauty and flow. Inspired by heritage baskets and the craft form that she loves, Sarah has taken time to design and develop each basket, in so doing creating for you original pieces that showcase traditional basketry techniques, highlighting the beauty of natural materials and making them perfect for modern living. Made using locally sourced Somerset willow, all of Sarah's basket collection embraces sustainability.

Need to know

Handwoven by Sarah Le Breton, each Indigo Ose Basket has been deliberately crafted using traditional basketry techniques.

Only made using locally sourced willow, each Indigo Ose Basket is created using a willow variety called Black Maul. The willow is stripped of it's bark to reveal a creamy white natural willow that is both highly prized and silk like to weave. Through experimenting with Indigo dyeing in a natural vat fermentation process, Sarah has been able to dye the white willow to give a wonderful array of blue shades. Please note that each Indigo Ose Basket is unique in colouration and whilst the indigo dye has been ‘fixed’, please treat like you would denim material.

H 40cm x W 18cm with 17cm opening diameter.

Due to the basket's very nature, being both handcrafted and using a natural non-uniform sized material, the shape of each Indigo Ose Basket may vary slightly. However Sarah aims to create each basket within a 2cm tolerance of the stated size and shapes each basket to perfection!

Wrapped and delivered in as eco-friendly packaging as possible.
