Back to takeaways

Two brothers who went through the worst thing they could imagine use their experience to create good in the world

Brothers Rob and Paul founded Gandys, which creates ethical and sustainable clothing built for travel, through resilience, determination and a passion to make a difference. Their story of using their business as a force for good and to honour their parents is filled with soulful life and business advice.

Here are my top takeaways from our incredible conversation.

“Just focus on your own thing and get that right.”

It doesn’t matter what exam results you got!
It’s funny, between us we’ve got one GCSE, but we’ve now been featured in national A Levels, we’ve been on business papers, in SATS and GCSE’s. So between us we have one GCSE, but we’re literally IN the curriculum!

Tough times don’t last, tough people do
No matter what you’re faced with you have the power to get through it.

When you start your business, tell everyone!
Don’t keep it quiet! Sing it from the rooftops! You want as many people as possible to know about it and everyone you meet is a potential cheerleader.

People have to see something 7 times before they take action
Remember that when you’re advertising! You can’t just think, ‘Oh well, I’ve shared it once’ you have to keep promoting in lots of different ways!

Make something with a good story
If your product has depth and an authentic story not only will it be a better product but you’ll also have an interesting story for people to connect to.
