Julie Deane OBE (The Cambridge Satchel Company)
Julie Deane, and her mother Freda, started The Cambridge Satchel Company at their kitchen table in Cambridge with a budget of only £600 and one goal, to make enough money to send Julie’s children to a better school. While brainstorming ideas Julie focused in on her frustration with poor quality school backpacks the idea was born. Numerous collaborations with high end brands, a loyal social media following, in the fashion media spotlight and numerous celebrities adorning the satchel propelled the brand forward.
In just over five years The Cambridge Satchel Company became a global brand being sold in over 120 countries with an annual turnover of excess of £50 million.
Julie was awarded The Queen’s Award for International Trade from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, an OBE followed for her services to entrepreneurship and she was appointed Entrepreneur in Residence at the British Library.
We’re thrilled to be welcoming Julie as our keynote speaker at The Congregation of Inspiration 2018. She will be sharing her story, speaking about the highs, lows and best advice on how to create an iconic brand that stands the test of time.
