Bring some cheer to your home décor with this handmade floral wreath, featuring a sculpture of Anna's hummingbird. He is made entirely of paper, with hand printed papers, metallic lustre and a UV protective lacquer to give him a shimmery quality, resembling his bird pals in the wild. This hummingbird sculpture perches on a wreath adorned with pinkish purple hydrangea blooms and is one of a kind.
All of my sculptures start out as doodles in my sketchbook, then I work out a paper model prototype. Once I've made a template, I make my textured papers using traditional printmaking techniques, such as monotype and screen printing. Every sculpture has its own unique patterns, colours and textures. I use this paper to cover the sculpture with hand cut paper feathers.
The Aztecs believed that hummingbirds were messengers between themselves and their ancestors and the gods. This handmade woodland wall hanging measures 26 cm (10 inches) tall and 22 cm (9 inches) wide. The humming bird is 10 cm (4 inches) from head to tail tip. They are mentioned in many folklore stories representing hope, loved ones and bringers of good luck and joy.
