This new box is part of a collaboration between the Chocolate Detective and the Knepp Estate and their pioneering re-wilding project. These eggs are the same as the salted caramel in the cuckoo egg box which were selected as a Best Buy and given 5 stars in Jeremy Lee's (Quo Vadis) taste test for the Observer last Easter.

Knepp have written the following:
White storks have been missing from Britain for 600 years. In 2016 the White Stork Project began a reintroduction program, and the first wild stork chick hatched at Knepp in 2020, in the top of an oak tree. Now you can see them everywhere at Knepp, circling in the thermals, nesting in our trees and throwing their heads back in their celebratory bill-clatter.

Need to know

Ingredients: sugar, cocoa mass, caramel 12% (sugar, water, dextrose), whole MILK powder, cocoa butter, concentrated butter (MILK), glucose syrup, coating agents (gum arabic, shellac), starches, emulsifier (SOYA lecithin), 'fleur de sel' salt, natural vanilla flavouring, colouring foodstuffs (apple, safflower, lemon, sweet potato & radish concentrates, BARLEY malt extract). Milk chocolate contains 30% cocoa min, 19% milk min. Dark chocolate contains 52% cocoa min.

Allergy Warning: see ingredients in CAPITALS. May also contain traces of eggs, sesame and other tree nuts.

Nutritional Information per 100g: Energy 478kcal, Fat 22g of which saturated fat 14g, carbohydrates 63g of which sugars 59g, Protein 4.2g, Salt 0.17g.

The Chocolate Detective

I’ve been obsessed by chocolate since I was child and always loved creating beautiful things. A degree in textile design and a student job selling chocolate in Harrods led to completing a small business course and founding Rococo Chocolates in 1983. After exiting the business in 2019 I set up the Chocolate Detective, and during the pandemic I worked alone out of a small kitchen in a gentleman’s club in Chelsea perfecting my recipes and designing my no plastic eco packaging. I also supported the Grenada Chocolate Company fundraising to help them through this difficult time. I have invested in an organic cocoa farm in Grenada and all the harvest is donated to the chocolate company who make some of the best chocolate I have ever tasting in the perfect circular economy that also respects the environment. I am the only person to have been honoured for “Services to chocolate making” (with an OBE from the late Queen Elizabeth in 2014).
