Great Spotted Woodpecker Standing Sculpture

This paper sculpture depicts a great spotted woodpecker. He is covered with hand cut feathers, cut from handprinted papers. I use traditional printing methods such as monotype and screen printing to ensure his colour palette and patterns are unique to him. He is made entirely from paper, and his construction also dictates that his posture is one of a kind, so each of my sculptures have their own distinct personality. He is one of a kind. His feet are paper wrapped steel wire, making him rather sturdy on his big toes, and he has shiny black eyes. He stands unaided on any flat surface.

Great spotted woodpeckers have long been a favourite of mine, with their bouncing flight and their ability to seemingly hang from any surface! A resident to most of the UK, you can usually hear them before you spot them, thanks to their distinctive call.
