HERB ROBERT CHARM NECKLACE ~ For Good Luck, Fertility, Protection, Steadfastness & Empathy

Herb Robert’s story is entwined with folklore and superstition. Carried as a charm for luck and fertility, it gathered over a hundred names in Britain alone. It was said to belong to Robin Goodfellow ~ Puck, the hobgoblin. He was sometimes called “Robert,” a diminutive of Robin, so he would not know he was being spoken of. If treated kindly, Puck might help the household with daily chores; but if brought indoors, his favour could twist to fury ~ lightning, misfortune, even death might follow. In Sussex it was called “Pook-needle,” its sharp seed imagined as a fairy’s tool, while “Stinky Bob” recalled its pungent leaves, once used as insect repellent, their scent likened to burning rubber or fox urine. Some believe a saintly origin: St. Robert of Molesme prescribed it for wounds, and nuns used it to ease “pain of the heart.” In Germany it’s bound to Knecht Ruprecht, companion of St. Nicholas, who left naughty children only a lump of coal at Yule.
